Life of Black American in the US based on the Book “12 Years A Slave”

Praca jest analizą książki napisanej przez Solomona Northupa pt. "12 Years A Slave". Jej treść zostaje skonfrontowana z różnego rodzaju źródłami historycznymi dotyczącymi sytuacji czarnego mieszkańca XIX- wiecznych Stanów Zjednoczonych. Cel pracy to wykazanie, że wspomniana książka ma wartość nie tylko historyczną, ale i moralną. Dzięki dobrze skonstruowanej psychoanalizie postaci, współczesny czytelnik ma szansę poznać oraz zrozumieć stosunki społeczne panujące w USA w XIX wieku. Praca analizuje zagadnienia cywilno- prawne, oraz społeczno- obyczajowe, dotyczące wolnych kolorowych obywateli oraz niewolników.The paper analyses a book written by Solomon Northup: "12 Years A Slave". Content of the book is confronted with various types of historical materials, which are referring to life of Black American in 19'th century in the USA. The aim of the work is to prove, that mentioned book is valuable not only from the historical point of view but also from the moral perspective. Thanks to the great constructed psychoanalyze of the characters, contemprorary reader has a chance to better understand relations between society in the USA.
